Desicannt Packets

Did you ever wonder what to do with those little silca gel packets that come in medicine bottles, electronic equipment, leather goods, and some food products? Most folks probably throw them away with the rest of the packaging material, but believe it or not you can find other great uses for them.

Silica gel is a desiccant -- it adsorbs and holds water vapor. We all know that moisture is our enemy when it comes to water soluble stabilizers. We recycle those little packets by putting them inside the ziplock bags we use to store our water soluble stabilizer. They help by adsorbing any moisture that gets trapped inside the bag. Much more desireable than having it adsorbed by our expensive stabilzer.

Next time you purchase something with one of these tiny packets inside, save it and put it to good use. The more you have, the less likely it will be your stabilizer melts away in the storage bag.

If you don't buy many things that contain silca gel packets, they can be purchased. There are many web sites that offer them for sale. Do a Google search for "desiccant packets" and you'll easily find several of them.
