![]() Product Tips Precision Oiler Having a hard time getting the right amount of sewing machine oil in just the right place? If the answer is yes, you might want to consider purchasing a small Precision Oiler. The investment is small, but the benefits are large. They are about 5 1/2 inches long, and look very much like a pen with a pocket clip that allows you to keep it handy. The long needle like tube allows you easily lubricate those hard to reach areas. Simply hold the end of the tube against the area needing lubrication and press the button on top. The oiler dispenses a single drop of oil exactly where you need it. Be sure to fill the oiler with a good, high quality sewing machine oil only. Don't purchase a Precision Oiler that comes filled with oil unless you are certain it's sewing machine oil. Purchasing one that you can refill yourself will be less expensive in the long run. The picture below is an example of what the oiler looks like in both the open and closed positions. ![]() The cost for these oilers varies, but you should be able to purchase one for under $10.00. They can be found at most home centers such as Lowes or Home Depot. You should also be able to find them at Ace Hardware, or any other full service hardware store. I believe Radio Shack carries them as well. If you do purchase one and find that it stops dispensing oil after using it for a while, there are three very good reasons for that. The most obvious being the oiler is empty and needs refilling. Secondly, the oiler reservoir is airtight. I've found that by occasionally loosening the cap to allow air to enter results in the oiler once again functioning normally. The third reason is your oiler is broken and you need to purchase a new one.
