There has been some confusion recently about the measurement scale on the Towa Bobbin Case Tension Gauge. New users purchasing this item have been confused by the picture on the box and the actual gauge inside.
Towa has changed the measurement scale on all new gauges that are now being manufactured, but apparently they are using up the supply of older boxes they have on hand.
The older style gauge measured your bobbin case tension in units of "Gram Force" (gf) on a scale from 0 to 40. The newer models now have a scale that measures in "Milinewtons" (mN) on a scale from 0 to 400.
There is no change in the functionality of the gauge, only the force scale it uses for measuring has changed. In other words, what would register as 25gf on the older model gauge would now register 250mN on the newer model. The gauge is identical in every other way.
The image below shows a comparison between the older and newer models. Don't be confused. Regardless of the model you have, the gauge is used in exactly the same way and your results will be identical.
